Dear Doha friends,
Last year I wrote, “Qinwan cheesecake remains the best in Doha, and I'm yet to be convinced otherwise.”
I was convinced this August. Earth Cafe, a quite popular place in Msheireb, introduced a new cheesecake - EKHLAS, with dates and cardamom, meant to taste like a Qatari summer.
I have eaten this cheesecake like at least five times already, and I can confidently say that this is my official number one, aka THE BEST cheesecake in Qatar.
We spend most of summer indoors, but it's also date season. Every July, Souq Waqif runs a whole festival for local dates, and this year 125 farms brought their harvest. Dear Earth Cafe team, thank you for putting that into a cheesecake!
The plate looks deliberate. A small baked cylinder on a biscuit base, with thick date puree swirled on top, plus a date and a fleck of gold on the date paste. The base on its own is not too sweet. Add the date paste and the cardamom, and the whole thing tastes just perfect.
Verdict: 10/5 worth the calories!
