Welcome to cheesecake.vc - here I share my notes about the two things I like the most: cheesecakes and my work.

My name is Malgorzata Filipowska. Colleagues call me Mal, family calls me Masia. I also go with Małgosia and Gosia… yep, I know.

I’ve spent nearly a decade investing in early-stage companies across emerging markets. I manage a portfolio of 130+ companies across 40 countries at Seedstars International Ventures, the first pan-emerging-markets fund, born in Switzerland and backed by institutional investors including the World Bank, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Visa. 🇨🇭

What I do is personal. I was born in Poland just after communism fell, when it was one of the poorest countries in Europe. Within my lifetime, I’ve watched it become the world’s 20th-largest economy.

Today, 70% of the global population lives in emerging markets (excl. China), yet these countries attract less than 5% of VC funding.

Twelve years ago, every unicorn in the world came from one country: the US. Today, 50% of unicorns are built in Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Our funds have already proven that these markets generate outstanding returns. I spend my days working with founders building the next generation of unicorns.
Outside of work, I’m on a mission to build the ultimate global cheesecake ranking.
